Cortez Fishing Festival

The 39th annual Cortez Fishing Festival in Cortez Village, February 14-15, 2015. http://www.cortez-fish.org/fishing-festival.html
We went for one day, on Sunday, while we were hosting another friend who happened to be in Florida this weekend. The festival is a celebration of the local fishing industry and "old Florida" culture. There's arts and crafts, music, loads of food - especially seafood, and the nearby fish processing facility has an open-house. It's a pretty good time!

  • a sample of the menus with all of the seafood options you could want, as long as it's deep fried!
  • Mullet, Snapper, some grouper and even some octopus get grilled in the late afternoon. (It was all a bit salty and reminded us of Donghuanan Night Market in Beijing)
  • What's your preferred colour of shrimp?
  • Sebastian isn't sure what to make of the big brown pelicans that are hanging around the Cortez Fish Plant.
  • Perhaps the Galapagos weren't all that unique in terms of sea birds wandering close to humans at a fishing dock. Here at Cortez Village, the brown pelicans, great blue herons and egrets are all just a few feet away.
